Description

1969 Chevrolet Camaro LS3 Custom w/ Detroit Speed Chassis Upgrades

“Known for specializing in both factory and custom restored show quality first generation Camaros. This example presented here is the best overall custom 1969 Camaro I’ve ever owned. It’s a rolling piece of artwork with so many tasteful upgrades. I nick named it “Southern Comfort” because of the design, color and feeling it gives your soul. Oh yeah, the company who did the entire interior is named Southern Comfort Interior. (LOL) Don’t miss the highlights, description, photos and video of this radical ride!” – Marc Schiliro

Nicknamed, “Southern Comfort” – this 1969 Chevrolet Camaro LS3 Custom with Detroit Speed chassis upgrades is absolutely spectacular! As the original Trim Tag that’s included indicates this car was built at the Norwood factory on the 3rd week of October. It was an X44 code car with a Hugger Orange exterior and black standard interior. From the information gathered this car was originally under restoration by a company named Race Tech in North Carolina. The car was going to be built as a race car and then the customer had a change of plans. The car made its way to Colan Ingle of Classic Restorations also located in North Carolina. The vision of the build was to create one of the slickest 69 Camaros on planet earth. The 2-year build started in 2020 and was completed in 2022. It was purchased in October of 2024 and April of 2025 is the first time it’s been listed for sale. Sit back and take a sip of some “Southern Comfort”.

The exterior of this 69′ Camaro is simply stunning with its enhanced factory design. During the build process there were many modifications made to the sheet metal. The original cowl grilles were removed and decorated with stainless steel mesh. The original drip rail moldings were smoothed. The original door handles were smoothed and new door pockets were fabricated into the rear quarters. The rear quarter side louvers were removed. Recessed side louvers were fabricated into the rear quarters and decorated with stainless steel mesh. The original pinch welds on the lower rocker panels and quarters were smoothed. They were also connected to appear as one piece. The rear deck lid and rear quarters were fabricated to appear as a spoiler. The rear panel was also smoothed and outfitted with a center mounted billet gas filler. The rear valence was fabricated to frame the license plate and exhaust outlets. It was outfitted with a cowl hood with billet push button locks. It was also outfitted with RS (Rally Sport) hide-a-way headlights that operate with Detroit Speed electric headlight kit. It sports a custom metal front spoiler. Countless hours were invested in the body making it laser straight with excellent body gaps throughout. It appears like the factory made all the modifications to the body. It was painted in the color of 2017 Toyota Sunset Bronze which dresses it beautifully. This color changes depending on the lighting. The high quality paint was recently detailed to a mirror finish. Some of the exterior features include all new Auto City tinted glass throughout, polished stainless front and rear windshield trim, chrome wipers operated with a Detroit Speed motor and Raingear 2-speed intermittent kit, custom painted sport mirrors, electric door release buttons, ACP halo headlights, Marquez Design parking lights, Dakota Digital tail lights with billet trim, smoothed front bumper and tucked smoothed rear bumper. The car rolls on custom Schott SL65 polished forged billet wheels that are 19×9 on the front and 20×12 on the rear. The wheels are secured with Gorilla lug nuts. The wheels are mounted to Michelin Pilot Sport tires that are 255-30-19 on the front and 335-25-20 on the rear.

The interior of this 69′ Camaro is truly innovative as it captures exterior features and appointments. It was designed and completed by Southern Comfort interiors located in North Carolina. The entire shell was covered in insulation to reduce heat and road noise. It was outfitted with a Detroit Speed steel dash insert. The headliner, dash, kick panels, door panels, full- length console, rear package tray, front and rear bucket seats were custom made. The kick panels and rear package tray were designed with RS headlight covers to match the front end. Everything was wrapped with genuine soft tan leather with brown accents including the stitching and diamond pattern inserts. Some of the interior features include the door strikers, dome light, Guard Dog Push Button Start, Autometer Sport Comp II black face gauges, Vintage Air Conditioning controls, Push Button transmission controls, custom vents, Flaming River painted tilt steering column, Billet Specialties Formula 14” steering wheel with brown wrap, power front seats with seat belts, Electric Life power windows, Clayton pedals and tan weave carpeting with matching floor mats. The engine block, Summit Racing valve covers and Holly oil pan were painted tan to match the interior. The engine was outfitted with an Edelbrock Cross Ram Intake that was painted body color. The dual polished air intake tubes with K&N air filters wrap around each side of the radiator. Some cooling system parts include dual SPAL electric fans, Summit overfill tank, vibrant hoses, custom painted radiator cover and support panel with stainless steel mesh. The engine breathes through American Racing coated headers and 3” X-pipe exhaust system with Summit Racing mufflers. This entire system was mandrel bent, tig welded and polished to perfection. The exhaust was designed to go over the rear end with exits through the rear valance. The engine is coupled to a GM 6L80 6-speed automatic transmission that was completely rebuilt by New England Transmission Parts. The transmission was also painted tan to match the interior. The transmission is setup with a Powertrain Control Solutions push button system for gear selection. It’s equipped with a Boss Hog 2800 stall converter. It’s equipped with a Precision Shaft Technologies black aluminum drive shaft. The power is transferred to a Detroit Speed Fab 9” Tru-Trac rear end housing with Moser 31 spline axles, Yukon nodular and 3.70 gears. The entire housing was painted body color.

The undercarriage is also highly detailed throughout with all new parts. The floors were finished in textured black paint by Dan Woosby located in North Carolina. This material is durable and adds extra protection from road rash. It’s equipped with a Detroit Speed front sub-frame which includes all the suspension parts. It’s also equipped with a Detroit Speed rear 4-link system. The front and rear were tied together creating a full frame theory. Some other features include JRI custom shocks, Ricks Stainless 18-gallon black tank, power rack and pinion steering. The braking system consists of ABS polished master brake cylinder, Wilwood proportioning valve, Wilwood 14” drilled and slotted rotors, Wilwood black calipers and Fragola stainless lines.
