This ’69 Z28 clearly falls into the #1 condition category and has been completely serviced.” – Marc Schiliro

This stunning 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 is a great example of an authentic and show quality American muscle car. Certified by Camaro expert Jerry MacNeish, it retains its original VIN tag, original VIN stamping on the cowl, original trim tag, original sheet metal, original exterior color, original interior color, original engine, and original rear end. The 1969 Camaro Z28 is one of the most popular high-performance cars of the 1960s, with only 20,302 produced, making this model highly collectible. According to the NCRS Shipping Data Report, the GM official production date was September 16th, 1969.

From gathered information, it was built with the following options: (52-B) Garnet Red with black stripes, (711) black standard interior, (C08) vinyl roof cover, (D55) console, (D80) spoiler equipment, (G80) positraction 3.73, (J52) disc brakes, (M21) 4-speed transmission, (N34) wood steering wheel, (U17) special instrumentation, (ZL2) style trim group, (Z28) special engine and equipment package, and (ZL2) special deducted hood. The original delivery dealer was Penske-McKean Chevrolet Inc. located in Philadelphia, PA. Original documents indicate it remained in Pennsylvania for 53 years until December 2022. Service receipts dating back to 1976 are included, along with original photos, registrations, and other documentation.

The car was purchased from Davis Hance on September 14th, 2016 by John W. Ammons, a known enthusiast in the collector car community who owns high-quality vehicles. John immediately started planning a meticulous restoration completed to show-quality standards, assisted by Eric Mann, a respected restorer in the community. The restoration focused on accuracy with many original parts restored and countless hours spent locating original components. Restoration receipts, handwritten notes, and three hardcover books of restoration photos are included.

The car was completed in late 2018 and inspected by Jerry MacNeish of Camaro Hi-Performance on January 3rd, 2019. The report and Certificate of Authenticity are included. John decided to sell the car in late 2022. Following a recommendation from Marc Schiliro, Mike Gamble of Humble, Texas purchased it on December 27th, 2022. Mike improved the car and corrected most of the component issues noted in the MacNeish report. Afterward, the car was trailered to the Camaro Nationals and entered into the American Camaro Association Bow Tie Class, where it earned a Silver Award with 939 points. After Mike’s passing, his son contacted the previous seller about purchasing the car. The car has been recently serviced with documented invoices, and May 2025 marks its first listing for sale with a new binder containing all mentioned documentation and an owner’s manual.

Exterior:
The ’69 Z28 features its iconic factory design and striking Garnet Red with black stripes. The entire body was placed on a rotisserie and stripped to bare metal. It retains all original sheet metal, including the cowl induction hood and rear spoiler, with only small patch panels added in discreet areas. The body is very straight with excellent panel gaps. The paint is show-quality and detailed to a brilliant shine. A new black vinyl top complements the exterior perfectly. New date-coded stamped glass was installed throughout, sourced from Auto City Classic. All exterior trim and hardware were restored or replaced with new parts, including stainless trim, drip rail moldings, antenna, wiper arms, mirrors, grille, headlights, bumpers, fender trim, door handles, rocker moldings, rear quarter louvers, taillight bezels and lenses, rear bumper, and emblems.

The car rolls on correct YH-stamped 15” Rally wheels with chrome trim rings and center caps, mounted with new Goodyear Wide Tread E70-15 white raised letter tires.

Interior:
The interior is beautifully restored in original black with wood-trimmed accents. Legendary Auto Interiors supplied many replacement interior parts, such as headliner and seat covers, while original door panels remain in excellent condition. The three-spoke wood steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, tachometer, and analog clock. Auxiliary gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and battery amperage are stacked in two tiers on the center console ahead of the shifter. Other restored or new components include door sill plates, dome light, dash pad, gauges, heating control panel, vents, knobs, steering column, door hardware, rear package tray, pedals, and carpeting. A modern Antique Automobile AM/FM/Bluetooth radio and correct style rubber floor mats are fitted. The trunk compartment was restored and refinished with correct trunk splatter paint, equipped with a spare tire, jack, and tools.

Engine Compartment:
The engine bay is highly detailed with many correct parts. The original VIN stamping on the cowl is visible and untouched. The firewall, inner fenders, and radiator support are refinished in the correct black shade. Powered by the original matching numbers DZ302 V8 engine, the engine frame mount numbers are stamped #3945507. The engine carries a #V0829DZ assembly stamp, 010 casting, H269 date code, and VIN stamp on the oil filter. Completely rebuilt with a hydraulic cam for reliability, it was dyno tested at 338 hp and 273 ft-lbs of torque (receipts and dyno sheet included). The engine uses the correct #4053 Holley carburetor dated 981, original deep-groove pulleys, wiring, wiper motor, smog system, brake booster (#9204), alternator (#1100837), and radiator tank coded CB dated F for 1969. The exhaust is a concours-correct Gardner system with turbo mufflers, resonator, and chrome tailpipes. The engine connects to a service replacement Muncie 4-speed M21 manual transmission (#660 case casting), fully rebuilt with a new clutch. Power is transferred to the original 12-bolt POSI rear end (CBU assembly date, casting date I29, #341NF casting) with 3.73 gears, also fully rebuilt.

Undercarriage:
The undercarriage is highly detailed and retains the original tailpipe adapter plate with factory spot welds. Original floors are refinished in correct primer and body overspray colors. The underside is restored or replaced, including power steering, suspension, and braking components. This undercarriage is worthy of show display with mirrors.
