1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Custom
This breathtaking 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Custom is the ultimate Pro Touring Muscle Car. The precise craftsmanship and attention to detail is evident throughout. It was designed and owned by Martin Turner, who had an open checkbook with no deadline. The vision of the masterpiece was to create a super high-quality build with modern features. The build was a collaboration between Blaine Lowden of Winterset Collision Center and Karl Kustoms in Iowa. It was completed in 2023 and has 300 test miles since completion.
The jaw-dropping exterior of this ’70 Chevelle is absolutely stunning with its outstanding bodywork and paint. During the restoration process, most of the sheet metal was replaced with new panels. The doors were modified to accommodate a set of Kindig-it Design flush-mounted door handles. The factory emblems were removed and shaved. Countless hours were invested in ensuring laser-straight panels and precise gap lines throughout. The body was finished in a custom Dark Green Metallic color with ghost racing stripes. This color appears black from a distance unless it’s in direct sunlight or seen up close. The high show quality paint was detailed to a mirror finish. It was outfitted with flush-mounted Fesler tinted front and rear windshields. The tinted door and quarter glass was also replaced. New front and rear chrome bumpers were installed to fit precisely. Some custom exterior features include an electronic cowl induction hood, hood pins, LED headlights, and a front spoiler. The car sits on BOZE Forged Cruiser 18” and 19” wheels with polished lips and black-painted centers. The wheels are mounted to Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires (245/40/18 front, 285/35/19 rear).
The rich interior of this Chevelle is both luxurious and sporty with its unique design. The custom one-piece headliner, sun visors, dash, full-length console, kick panels, door panels, quarter panels, rear package shelf, and seating surfaces were upholstered in Brown and Dark Green Brazilian leather. It was outfitted with sixth-generation Camaro power-operated bucket seats. The rear seats were designed to match the front. The floors were covered with brown plush carpeting and matching floor mats. Some custom features include LED dome lights, Ididit tilt steering column, Billet Specialties 14” Formula steering wheel, billet aluminum levers and door handles, Vintage Air Conditioning, power windows, Clayton Machine pedals, Hurst billet shifter, and Alpine stereo. It’s equipped with a Klassic keyless start and locking system. The trunk compartment was boxed and upholstered in matching Brown and Dark Green Brazilian leather, with a matching carpeted floor. The deck lid pivots on aluminum hinges painted body color. A removable side panel allows access to the X2Power Premium AGM battery.
The highly detailed engine compartment is like a jewelry box with its gorgeous appearance. The backside of the hood and aluminum hinges were painted body color. The firewall was modified, smoothed, and painted body color. The inner fenders, radiator support panel, and custom cover were also painted body color. The cowl was decorated with custom vents. The car is powered by a GM Performance LS1 block built by Jeff Piper of Harvey’s Automotive and Machine in Iowa. The engine is estimated to have 550–600 hp. This special aluminum block features Eagle H-beam forged connecting rods, Race Tech forged pistons, JE rings, Comp Cam and valve springs, Comp Endure X roller lifters, shaft rockers, DM Performance main girdle, Dart Pro 1 aluminum heads, ARP studs, Holley oil pan, Melling high-pressure oil pump, and a custom polished aluminum intake system. It’s managed by a Holley Terminator X Max EFI fuel system. The engine is dressed with Billet Specialties LT Modular ribbed valve covers and a Tru-Trac serpentine system. Additional equipment includes a Power Master alternator, Detroit Speed wiper motor, and billet clutch reservoir. Cooling is provided by a black-painted Wizard aluminum radiator with dual SPAL fans and Maradyne wiring. Exhaust flows through ceramic long-tube headers and a 3” polished H-pipe system with Borla Pro XS mufflers and custom oval tips. The engine is paired to a Tremec TKO 600 5-speed manual transmission with a McLeod Racing twin-disc hydraulic clutch. Power is transferred to a Moser full-floating 9” True-Trac POSI rear end with 31-spline axles, billet hubs, and 3.70 gears.
The highly detailed undercarriage is extremely well-organized throughout. The floors are finished in black textured paint for durability. The rear inner fenders were modified to accommodate a black Schwartz Performance Chassis. Custom features include power rack-and-pinion steering, upper and lower tubular control arms, sway bars, RideTech adjustable coilovers, 4-link rear setup, and a custom stainless fuel tank. The advanced braking system includes a Retrofit Innovation electric brake booster, Wilwood master cylinder, Wilwood 6-piston front calipers, Wilwood 4-piston rear calipers, and 13” drilled and slotted rotors. It’s also equipped with an E-STOPP electric emergency brake.
