This awesome 1979 International Harvester Scout II 4×4 w/ factory AC is the ultimate classic SUV and a multiple award winner. This collector grade example checks all the boxes. The International Scout is an off-road vehicle produced by International Harvester from 1960 to 1980. The Scout and second-generation Scout II were produced in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This example is accompanied with its original manufactures serial tag, original shipping sheet, original window sticker, original retail instalment contract, original odometer statement, original release of lien letter, original owner’s manuals, copy of the original line setting ticket, copy of original title and original service receipts from 1981-1996. As documented it was built on May 22, 1979 with the following options: Burnt Orange exterior, exterior décor white accent stripe, Russet vinyl interior, deluxe exterior trim package, door edge guards, sliding rear quarter windows, H78-15 White Side Wall tires, deluxe interior package, bucket front seats, folding rear seat, tilt steering wheel, 15” soft texture sport steering wheel, AM radio with stainless steel antenna, electric clock, heater and air conditioning package, auto cruise, omit clutch and controls, storage console, power steering, modulated fan, 345 V8 engine with 4bbl carburetor, automatic transmission, optional 3.54 rear axle ratio, trac-lok rear axle and automatic front wheel locking hubs. It was delivered to International Harvester Company located in Phoenix, Arizona. It was retailed on September 5th, 1980 to Richard Landon who lived in Scottsdale, Arizona. Richard was the caretaker for almost 21 years before selling it on July 13th, 2001 to John Gurski who lives in Woodbridge, New Jersey. At the time of purchase it was a rust-free survivor with 87,000 original miles. John decided to do restore the entire vehicle while keeping it as original as possible. The meticulous restoration was completed over multiple years utilizing many NOS and OEM parts. Upon completion it earned 17 prestigious awards from the East Coast Scout Regionals and I.H. Scout Nationals. The awards include 1- Farthest Trailered, 1- Sponsors Choice, 1- Best Interior, 2- Best Engine, 2- Best in Show, 3- Best Paint and 6- First Place. John was the caretaker for over 23 years.

The exterior of this Scout is eye-catching with its style and gorgeous color. It was a rust-free Arizona prior to the restoration so it retains all of its original sheet metal. It was sent to a professional body shop where it was stripped and repainted in its original factory color of Burnt Orange. The body is very straight and it has excellent gap lines throughout. The doors open and close beautifully. The paint is show quality and was recently detailed to a brilliant shine. It’s equipped with a removable hardtop that has never been off. The front windshield was replaced new. The original vent glass, door glass and hardtop glass with sliders is in very nice condition. Everything on the exterior has been restored or replaced new such as the windshield wipers, antenna, dual chrome mirrors, front chrome and black grille with matching headlight buckets, Wagner headlights, chrome front bumper, parking light lenses and bezels, door handles, body side moldings, gas cap, tail light lenses and bezels, chrome rear bumper and emblems. It sits on the original International Rally 15” chrome slotted wheels that are mounted to Goodyear Wrangler MT/R 31×10.5/15 tires with raised white letters. The center caps on the rear wheels were re-chromed. Everything on the exterior is in working order such as the parking lights, headlights, taillights, brake lights, turn signals, horn and wipers.

The interior of this Scout complements the exterior perfectly with its original Russet upholstery. The original light tan perforated headliner and sun visors are in excellent condition. It’s been outfitted with a cowboy hat holder which was added by the original owner. It’s equipped with a black roll bar that was installed by The International Harvester dealer when it was new. The black dash pad was recovered in leather by the original owner. The original tilt steering column, 3-spoke steering wheel, black dash fascia, speedometer, heater and air conditioning controls are in excellent condition. The alternator, temperature, fuel and oil pressure gauges were replaced with NOS. The original bucket seats and rear folding seat still retains the original upholstery along with the original seat belts. The top of the door panels and console with shifters is painted body color. The original orange rubber flooring was replaced with NOS black rubber flooring. Some of the custom features include a chrome fire extinguisher, Autometer tachometer, JVC stereo, center console with wood top, cup holders and storage compartment. The spacious rear compartment houses a full size spare tire with cover. Everything in the interior is in working order including the lights, gauges, stereo, heat and air conditioning system.

The engine compartment is nicely detailed throughout with many original parts. The firewall, inner fenders and radiator support were repainted the correct shade of black. It’s powered by its original matching numbers 345 V8 engine with 4-barrell carburetor. The engine runs excellent and didn’t require rebuilding. The engine was gone through including repainting the valve covers and oil pan. Some of the parts were replaced such as the alternator, AC compressor and starter. The engine was recently serviced and a new Pertronix electronic ignition system was installed. The engine is couple to the original matching numbers Torqueflite 727 automatic transmission was shifts smoothly. The transmission was also recently serviced. The engine and the transmission have never been removed from this vehicle. The engine is cooled by a replacement radiator. The engine breathes through the original exhaust pipes which were recently repainted. The original catalytic converter was removed and a Flowmaster muffler was added. The power is transferred to the original POSI rear end with 3.54 gears.

The undercarriage is also nicely detailed throughout with many original parts. The body was never taken off the chassis. The floors and chassis were repainted in the correct shade of black. The power steering pump, box and hoses were replaced. The original fuel tank was restored along with new sending unit and fuel pump. It was outfitted with a Skyjacker 4” lift kit with Softride Hydro Shocks and leaf springs. It’s equipped with a power braking system with front wheel discs.
